What equipment is included in the rental?

All Kayarine rentals include the kayak or SUP board, paddle, and a Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Waterproof phone bags are available as an optional add-on. You only need to bring comfortable athletic clothing, sunscreen (SPF 30+), and at least 500ml of drinking water.

Can I rent without any experience?

Accepted Answer

Yes — no prior experience is required. Our staff provide a 10–15 minute safety briefing and basic paddling technique session before every rental. Over 80% of our customers are first-time kayakers or SUP paddlers. Single kayaks and inflatable SUPs are both beginner-friendly.

What happens if the weather is bad on my rental day?

Kayarine monitors Hong Kong Observatory forecasts in real time. If a Yellow Rainstorm Warning, Thunderstorm Warning, or Typhoon Signal No. 1 or above is issued during your rental window, you may choose a free reschedule or a full refund. We contact all affected customers at least 2 hours before the scheduled start time.

Question 4

Can I bring my pet on a kayak rental?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Kayarine offers specially designed 2+1 family kayaks with a dedicated safety seat for small to medium-sized pets. Pets must wear their own life jacket (not provided by Kayarine). Please notify us when booking so we can assign the appropriate kayak. Final approval depends on pet size and weather conditions.

Where can I store my belongings during the rental?

You can leave bags and personal items at our Sai Kung Waterfront pickup point — a staff member remains on-site throughout your rental. We recommend leaving valuables (cash, IDs, designer items) at your accommodation, as Kayarine does not provide insurance or accept liability for stored items.

Are there changing rooms at the pickup location?

Accepted Answer

Simple changing tents are available at our pickup point. For full shower and changing facilities, Sai Kung Sports Ground (free, 07:00–23:00) and Sai Kung Squash Courts (07:00–23:00) are both within 2–3 minutes' walk. Sai Kung Swimming Pool offers complete shower facilities but requires a ticket.

Is there parking near the Kayarine pickup point?

Accepted Answer

Yes — three options are within walking distance. Jockey Club Golf Course car park is approximately 1 minute away (HK$20–24/hour). Man Nin Street metered parking is about 8 minutes away (HK$8/hour). Mei Fook Street car park is about 5 minutes away (HK$24–30/hour). The pickup point is also accessible by minibus and taxi from Sai Kung town centre.

Where can I shower and change after returning equipment?

Four options are within walking distance: Sai Kung Sports Ground (free changing rooms and showers, 07:00–23:00), Sai Kung Squash Courts (basic facilities, 07:00–23:00), Sai Kung Swimming Pool (complete shower facilities, admission required), and Yi Chun Street Public Toilet (basic shower facilities). All are within 2–6 minutes' walk.

What is the weather refund policy for rentals?

Accepted Answer

If the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Yellow Rainstorm Warning or above, a Thunderstorm Warning, or Typhoon Signal No. 1 or above during your rental window, you can choose a free reschedule or a full refund. If a warning is issued after your rental has already started, our staff will assess conditions on-site. We always prioritise customer safety.

What's the difference between a kayak and a SUP? Which is better for beginners?

Accepted Answer

Beginners should start with a kayak — it's more stable and easier to control while seated. A kayak (sit-in or sit-on) is paddled with a double-bladed paddle from a low, balanced position, handles wind and chop well, and suits longer distances and families. A SUP (stand-up paddleboard) is paddled standing with a single-bladed paddle, builds core strength and offers great views and photos, but is harder to control in wind. In Sai Kung's calm sheltered waters both work for first-timers, but a kayak is the more forgiving choice.

What should beginners know before their first kayak or SUP trip?

Accepted Answer

Three things before you set off: (1) check the Hong Kong Observatory forecast and Sai Kung tides, and avoid days with storm warnings or strong wind; (2) wear a life jacket the whole time and stay close to shore — never paddle out into open water alone; (3) apply sunscreen, bring enough drinking water, and pick a spot with a licensed coach on site. Kayarine provides the kayak or SUP, paddle and life jacket, with a basic coaching briefing before departure — no experience needed.
